Camling

This is night No.30/2019 living in my caravan. Now pitched at another farm CL in Dumfries and Galloway, at Camling Farm near Penpont. Thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Blowplain Farm, and I would have stayed longer if a pitch had been available. But, these sites are limited to 5 pitches, and one of them was given to a couple in return for helping out with the ground work and cleaning. These were super fresh eggs, 6 for £1. The owner puts out the fresh laid eggs daily. I had got the last 6 for that day, but there was another couple of dozen the next morning. An idyllic spot. The building on the right has a small toilet and toilet/shower room. A couple of fellow campers enjoying the duck pond. Some of the ducks. I got up early around 0600 and took the dogs a run along the very quiet surrounding roads, and after breakfast, took a short drive to St Johns Town of Dalry, or as it's known locally, Dalry. This bridge leading from the town forms part of the Southern Upla...

Blowplain Farm

This is night No.29/2019 living in my caravan. Now pitched at another farm CL, this time Blowplain Farm near Balmaclellan (never heard of either before!) Left the excellent Fairgirth Farm at around 1130 for the 40min drive to this next site. Fairgirth Farm was excellent, and I benefited from the outstanding weather we've had over the last few days. Great walking and a great spot for the van. Blowplain is quite different. The farmer retired, then died a few years ago, and his wife now just runs the 'hobby' side of things. She has a big collection of poultry which runs around and a few sheep. This CL benefits from a WC and a shower. Quite basic, but it's there if needed. The site itself consists of 5 pitches all around a pond. Not bad at £12 per night. After pitching up, popped over to New Galloway to walk the dogs, then on the way back stopped in at the great wee shop in Balmaclellan. A nice village. This is up at the War Memorial. And as ...

Around the Solway Coast

This is night No.28/2019 living in my caravan. It's my second night at Fairgirth Farm CL, near Dalbeattie in Dumfries and Galloway. After the early morning walk around the adjacent woods, breakfast, and an 'al fresco' shower, took the dogs for a walk down to the beach, around 1 mile away along a quiet road. Looking back at one of the farm houses at Fairgirth. Along the road, there is a loch which is really well kept. It's opposite this development at Barend. These chalets look like they've been here a long time and there are a lot of them. Very nice, but I'll bet they were/are timeshare properties. Some of the attractive flowers on the loch side. The beach at Sandyhill is very big with fine, golden sand. I could see a wind farm to the west, and another in the distance to the east, both offshore. Also a rather rare sight these days, salmon nets. As I walked along the coastal path, I could see down onto the nets. Strang...

Fairgirth Farm CL

This is night No 27/2019 living in my caravan. Now pitched at Fairgirth Farm CL, near Dalbeattie in Dumfries & Galloway. I have no phone signal, so this is just a short post, as I sit in the Dalbeattie Wood car park! Got up right late (!) AT 0630, and took the dogs along the riverside in Moffat. After breakfast, we headed for the short drive to Earshaig Lochans. What a cracking day for a walk. A pair of geese having a paddle. Very pretty. Another one of the lochans. Just a cracking start to the day, hardly a cloud in the sky.   Even spotted some Bull Rush. The water was teeming with tad poles. Haven't a clue what this small flower is, but looked nice. Left Moffat around 1030 for the 1 hr drive to Fairgirth. An idyllic spot with great views. Took the dogs into the woods next door, looking back at the farm. A great dog walking wood 2 mins from the van. And from the high spot in the wood, I could see the Solway Firth. ...
